Week 7 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 7

An experience in the program that has stood out to you that didn’t occur at your placement

This has been a long seven weeks, and a lot has happened. I am so happy that my time at towers is almost up!

Something interesting that has happened outside of my placement happened during our community visit at the Russel Industrial Center. While we were walking across the parking lot during our guided tour I saw someone that I trained with at martial arts. I had not seen this person in over four years, and much to my surprise he was on his way to the martial arts dojo and he saw me and informed me that the new location for the dojo was upstairs.

Once we finished our tour I was able to go and see my instructor, and a few other people that I had  been training with since I was 7 years old. I was really happy, safe to say that  was the most excited that I had been since the start of this program. I  would not  have had the opportunity to link up with the people who I have considered my family for more than half of my life. I am happy we visited the site.

  1. I’m happy you were able to reconnect with old friends! Hopefully, we can make the most of the rest of our time here and make more great memories!
