Week 7 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 7

A moment that stood out to me is last week’s seminar with Angela Abiodun. That was probably my favorite seminar because we discussed issues that go further than our placements and the program. I thought it was refreshing to talk about topics that pertain to Detroit, and the people that inhabit the city.

Angela inspired me to be more conscious of my history and think more about where I want to go after I graduate. When we discussed code-switching she shed light on a perspective that I never thought of. I find it so amazing when I see other people only a couple of years older than me be so aware of who they are and what impact they want to leave on the world.

I was so happy that everyone was engaged and we all had so many questions and comments for Angela. I think it was a very productive dialogue that we needed to remind us of what the real world has in store for us.

  1. I agree, it was a truly awesome discussion. It opened my eyes to being more aware of myself when going into new communities.
