Week 6: A day late and a dollar short… – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 6: A day late and a dollar short…

I am so glad the health fair is finally over and it was a success! We were able to bring several new vendors to the Friends of Parkside and people seemed to really enjoy them. Some of my favorite vendors which were able to come were the Smile Programs Mobile Dentist and Lions Foundation Vision Screenings.

Karen from the Smile Programs Mobile dentist did an excellent job welcoming the Parkside children to get their teeth cleaned. Some children gleamed with excitement about getting their teeth cleaned and others had faces of worry from the possible unknown experience of what it felt like to interact with a dentist.

The Lions Foundation did vision testing using new equipment to test the eyes of the youth. I had never seen equipment like this but it was really cool to have people come out to the Parkside community with this wonderful equipment. Even more exciting 5 referrals were made for the 25 children that were tested! YAY!

I can finally let out my sigh of relief concerning this event.
