Detroit, Detroit, Detroit…. – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Detroit, Detroit, Detroit….

Being apart of the Detroit Community Based Research Program has given me a new and deeper love for Detroit and its people. To me, Detroit is home, and for a while I could not see Detroit from a different lens. But this summer as I have explored the midtown/downtown area like never before and have worked on the Eastside of Detroit which is completely different from the westside of Detroit. While working on the Eastside in Osborn specifically, I learned so much about the community and the bond that the community members have with one another and their area. Everyone works had in Osborn and strives to be the best that they can be. Though there is a lot of poverty in that area, that does not stop them from doing what is necessary to enjoy life! The area where I grew up on the westside did not have a tight knit community and to experience one this summer in Detroit gave me a whole new outlook. Also with Midtown and Downtown opening new stores and restaurants, it’s been a joy to see this Detroit in a new light! There’s now more things for people to do in Detroit without having to leave the suburbs. I love Detroit and now that I know the many different sides of Detroit, I can appreciate it for what it truly is.
