Week 7: Juneteenth – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 7: Juneteenth

One of the best experiences that I have had through the DCBRP program is the Juneteenth event. The event far exceeded my expectations! I thought that we were going to be lectured to, but the amount of engagement from us in the audience  along with performances made it a truly remarkable event. Another amazing aspect of this event was how art was used to discuss issues plaguing people of all different backgrounds in Detroit. This event was used as a platform for raw, open, and honest dialogue about a lot of different issues that are not talked about enough. It was a truly memorable event!

  1. Hey Destini,

I had the same feelings about the Juneteenth event! I thought it was really engaging, and it was a really emotional experience. I wish there were more events like this because I felt like it was much more honest and open than most events I attend.
