This article entitled “Detroit to launch largest recycling expansion as new Sustainable Action Agenda unveiled” discusses the monumental efforts being made in the city of Detroit to improve and enact new sustainability efforts. These sustainability efforts are mainly geared towards recycling. This will be the city’s “largest expansion of recycling in Detroit’s history”. The city of Detroit has approved for over one million dollars to be allocated towards these efforts. The city’s overall goal is to add 16,000 households and 1,500 large buildings to this program by 2020 in order to increase the overall diversion rate for municipal solid waste. One additional aspect of this news that excites me, is that the city took efforts to gather input from the local community and asked the residents of the city how they felt about these initiatives. This is an amazing feat for the city of Detroit, and it is great to see the city showing progress towards a more sustainable future.

Wow, not only does this seem like a fantastic investment for the city but it also appears that is was undertaken in a way respectful to the community. Seeing the city take into consideration its citizens while also pushing forward with an important agenda is really exciting.
