So while being in this internship I have not had the opportunity to write much poetry. I always tell myself that I will but I get tired, have work to do or simply don’t feel like writing. In a bit of an ironic poem I wrote a poem about my mini break up with poetry.
Breakups Are Tough…If you Care
We used to go on walks, I miss walks
The ones where the weather is just write
The write balance of wind and serenity
But lately I have been busy, I have to pencil you in
Remember when I would stay up until 5:00 AM with you
Remember when you held my hand
I’ll try to make some time for us next week—
Well okay maybe the week after that
Dammit this is what I mean
I traded your love in for a younger, less grounded version
They said I would have time for you and Her
Poetry…I think we might be breaking up
I know its cliché but its not you its me
See I just need to focus on me, myself and I
And they are not the best at sharing
I guess there is no good way to say
“Despite all the times you peeled my emptions off the sidewalk
I will use that same sidewalk to walk away from you”
Different approach, lets play the blame game
Its your fault
That’s a lie and we both know it
I’ll just ignore your phone calls, text messages, email, random pop ups at my job
And finally,
I’ll shut off my heart when only the sound of my breath could rescue you from your self inflicted demise
I saw you on the news last night
“Poetry, forgotten on the side of an assembly line”
You must have been looking for me
I guess I was too early and you were too late
Oooooh you know I’ve been struggling with writing poetry as well, so this is a great way to release some pressure and write poetry like you’ve been wanting to do. Maybe because its hard to write ina new environment and schedule. However, I think challenges like that bring out the best in creative souls.
You are probably right about writing in a new environment. And I hope these challenges help cause if not I’m gonna need to talk to someone’s manager.
I’d like to recommend my manager. She’s a lovely woman named Mama Eggling
I second that recommendation
