My favorite experience in Detroit so far was the panel discussion on gentrification we attended at the historical museum. I really liked hearing the perspective of the panelists and Detroit’s in the audience. We have been learning about the issues citizens are being faced with in books and through our placements, but I thought this was the first time I could actually feel the emotion from the room. The questions and comments the audience had really illuminated the issue of gentrification in Detroit and the human, personal consequences of this “growth.”

This was definitely one of my favorite experiences as well! The interaction between the audience and the panel was so energetic, especially because there we’re representatives from both sides of the issue (business/activist). It really felt like an interactive and productive conversation.
