Week 3 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 3

Something I’ve observed from Brilliant Detroit is how essential team work is. There are many different parts that go into organizations and it’s rare to engage in a project that doesn’t need time and energy from multiple parties. While this can lead to frustration, delay, and miscommunication, this also forces us out of individualistic mentalities.

The photo is of my work folder. In it I have many handouts from Brilliant, other organizations, and myself. It’s interesting to look through them to see what sorts of forms I’ve accumulated over the few weeks and map that to my experience so far – from the first day orientation handouts to the ones we made for a meeting this past Thursday. What this folder tells me most so far is that good work is done by sharing information and building on it with what others have shared with you. It takes time to collect that information and it’s hard to know how to best share it; not everything in the folder is equally relevant and some of it has been unnecessary. Regardless, progress is a gradual process. One best made by teamwork and time.

I really feel the importance of teamwork to the professional setting. I never realized how crucial teamwork can be to having an office operate efficiently. Like you said, almost everyone has some part to play in getting a project to the finish line. I think the lessons from this will help for group projects next school year.
